Rotary Club of the Pelhams recognized four Pelham Memorial High School seniors—Robbie Shepherd, Jonah Sherbransky, Leah Sherbransky and Emma Van Praagh—as Scholars of the month at a luncheon meeting on Dec. 7.

 

By coincidence, all four are participants in the PMHS Science Research program.

 

The four students are:

—Robbie Shepherd, who won the Mu Alpha Theta Award at the Regeneron-Westchester Science and Engineering Fair this year for projects involving the use of math in investigations. Other achievements have involved research in astronomy, Model United Nations competitions, Science Olympiad, PMHS Band and Jazz Band Trombone Section Leader, AcaPelicans as well as membership in National Honor Society and Science, English and Math honor societies.

—Jonah Sherbransky, who won a Biological Sciences Award at the WESEF this year and is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the English, Math, Science and Social Studies honor societies. He had a virtual internship on Alzheimer’s disease factors last summer at Weill Cornell. His extracurricular activities include the Forensics Speech Team, piano and track.

—Leah Sherbransky, who was a Regeneron ISEF finalist this year. Her research has been related to pathology and tumors. She is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Science, Math, English, Social Studies and Tri-M Music honor societies. Her extracurricular activities include AcaPelicans, Sock-n-Buskin drama club, Pelham Examiner, the Forensics Speech Team and field hockey.

—Emma Van Praagh, who won the In Vitro Biology Award at the Regeneron-Westchester Science and Engineering Fair this year. Her summer research has been with Vanderbilt University Center for Human Imaging, specifically MRI images in early stages of multiple sclerosis.She is a National Merit Commended Student 2022 and a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Science, Math, World Language, Try-M Music, English and Social Studies honor societies. Her extracurricular activities include Orchestra (violin) and Chorus, Pelham Together Leadership Council and Cross Country track.

 

In addition to recognizing PMHS students for their academic achievements as Scholars of the Month during the school year, Rotary Club of the Pelhams will award a $15,000 scholarship to a 2023 graduating PMHS student. Applications for the scholarship will be available through the PMHS Guidance Department in the spring.
