Four Pelham Memorial High School students—Spencer Conrad, Samantha, Gregware, Avery Goodman and Gyan Schloyer—were recognized as Marilyn Stiefvater Scholars of the Month by Rotary Club of the Pelhams at its Oct. 4 luncheon meeting.
The students who were honored:
-Spencer Conrad - a scholar of Latin with national medals who is active in the Science Research program. He is a member of the National Honor Society as well as English, Math, and Science honor societies. His extracurricular activities include Forensic speech, Pelham Mel student newspaper, Model United Nations, Dungeonsa nd Dragons Club, Latin Club, Student Association and the AcaPelicans singing group. He is captain of the Varsity Swimming team.
-Samantha Gegware - won a medicine and science award and had internships at Mount Sinai in Behavioral Research during the past two summers. She is a member of the National Honor Society as well as Science, English, Social Studies and French honor societies. She is the Class of 2024 treasurer. Her extracurricular activities include competitive dance, Women’s Empowerment Club, Students for Refugees, French Club and Midnight Run Club. She tutors students in chemistry, living environment and algebra.
-Avery Goodman - won a Behavioral Science award and is studying climate/economy relationships. She is a member of the National Honor Society as well as Chinese, Science, English, Social Studies and Math honor societies. Her extracurricular activities include Model UN, Art Club, Environmental Science Club and Mandarin Club. During the summer, she attended a camp offering full immersion in the Mandarin language 24 hours a day. She also attended an engineering bootcamp at Stevens Institute of Technology.
-Gyan Schloyer - won a science award and does reaserch in environmental science, including tests for invasive species in local aquatic environment. He is proficient in Mandarin. His extracurricular activities include running the Animal Welfare Club and participating int the Science Research Club.
In addition to recognizing PMHS students as Scholars of the Month during the school year, the Rotary Club awards $15,000 scholarship to a graduating PMHS student in June.
